Filip will be teaching three Aerial Silk and three Straps workshops at our event on Saturday and Sunday!

1. Aerial Silk Dynamics - Saturday, September 7th - 10:30 - 12:30

In this workshop we’ll delve into the world of swinging-based dynamic elements. We’ll focus on proper swinging technique that is both safe and efficient. We’ll understand different factors and body alignments that decide if we transfer momentum freely, or have to muscle through tricks. Then we’ll of course learn some dynamic elements or even connect them into sequences. We’ll attempt moves from front-back swings, side swings and twisting elements.

Prerequisites: ability to hang at least 20 seconds with no wraps; 3-4 consecutive swings; comfortable straddle inverts

2. Aerial Silk Beginners - Saturday, September 7th - 14:00 - 15:30

This will be an introduction to the world of aerial silks. We’ll familiarize ourselves with basic concepts and elements on aerial silks. We’ll try some elements where we hang upside down close to the floor, but we’ll also try the basic climb and, for eager folks, we can maybe even try stuff up in the air! Afterwards we’ll discover “the knot” that makes a beginner aerialist’s life so much easier as it doesn’t require climbing and relying purely on the strength of our arms to remain in the air. We’ll learn some elements and hit pretty poses, perfect for a picture or to show off to your friends.

3. Aerial Silk Waist Rolls - Sunday, September 8th - 10:30 - 12:30

This workshop will be all about the concept of C-shaping and how it stands behind many spectacular and seemingly impossible moves. We’ll start with some drills on the floor to understand muscles involved in transferring the weight around the silk. Then we’ll try some fundamental elements that utilize C-shaping like front balance or back balance. We’ll also try to expand on those and actually try to roll up the silk. We’ll try some static and maybe even dynamic C-shaping-based elements, depending on the participants’ level.

Prerequisites: ability to hold front balance, back balance; ability to hang at least 20 seconds with no wraps; comfortable straddle inverts

4. Straps Beginners AND Intermediate - Saturday, September 7th - 16:30 - 18:30

Workshop for Teenagers between 12 and 16.

On demand, we extended the content of this workshop, which is now opened both for beginners AND intermediate!

4.1 Beginners:

During this workshop, we’ll cover some basic two-arms elements and positions that are essential in straps, but you can surely execute them on other apparatus as well. Not to mention they look great on Instagram! We’ll try both hanging and support elements. We’re going to hang upside down a lot and spin a fair amount, so prepare to get a bit dizzy.

Prerequisites: one year of practice on any aerial apparatus. Ability to comfortably invert from straight or bent arms.

For this workshop, please take something to cover your wrists. This can be a wristband, long sleeve or a piece of bandage wrapped around the wrists.

4.2 Intermediate:

Here we’ll troubleshoot and analyze classic one-arm straps moves such as meathooks, straddles or flags. We’ll also try to enter some of them utilizing the spin. We’ll try to tackle flares and how they can help us transfer the spinning momentum to make entering elements like flag or nutcracker easier. We’ll also touch on support moves like entering a back balance. For experienced straps practitioners, we can maybe even try switches. We’ll also find some time to help you or guide you towards your dream straps skill.

Prerequisites: some familiarity with basic two-arms straps elements and transitions; endurance in the spin; ability to hold meathook and/or 1arm straddle; 3-4 controlled skin-the-cats
